[ It's two days before Friday. Two days before Adachi needed to get dressed and go out on a date. Not his first, no, but the first he had the presence of mind to give the best try he could to get right. ]
Viktor i need help The dates in two days and i just They said it was semi formsl but Idk aboyt just wearing my usual suit I mean i wear thind thing everyehere I mean its formal But semi formal Idk what that even means I need help Like teally bad
[ The panic has definitely set in, considering the rapid line by line send of the message storm Adachi just sent over. ]
[ Of course, Adachi gets to the shopping district ten minutes early; early enough to wear a worried rut in the floor with all the pacing he's doing back and forth. He had given up on work for the day long before he even texted Viktor, and now the sparkly envelope (he swore that glitter just seemed to multiply) was being passed back and forth between his hands as he tried desperately not to full out panic. ]
[ And unfortunately for Adachi's nerves, Viktor is running a few minutes late; he wanted at least a cursory wash from his training with the sweat he'd built up from it and not bringing any fresh clothes with him. So he'll get to look halfway decent if still post-workout when he spots Adachi, walking with his duffel over his shoulder and his other hand in the air to wave. ]
[ Adachi stopped dead and spun on his heel, looking like he would melt on the spot in relief as soon as he saw Viktor. He hurried over to him, torn between freaking out still and being stupidly happy that Viktor just seemed to be using his first name when the others weren't around. Which totally wasn't the point right now and not something he needed to be concerned with or anything. ]
[ He held the envelope out to Viktor for him to see. ]
S-sorry for panicking. I just-- I mean, it's not my first date, but-- I mean--!
[ More like a lot; he didn't want to repeat the mistake he made with Harley. He didn't want to look like a loser. He really didn't want to look like he had no idea what he was doing, and he really didn't want to screw this up. ]
There's really no reason to be! You read yourself how easy going Inanna is. It's not like they'll judge you for what you wear or anything as superficial as that.
But! Having said that, it's nice to look your best every now and then, right?
[ ..."they"? He suspected this person was a guy given context, but their name sounded kind of feminine, so he wasn't sure. Was this going to be another one of those things he was going to have to relearn? Probably, and it was probably a good thing he talked to Viktor first. ]
W-well yeah, I mean-- I just--
[ He let out a breath, deflating again. ]
I just don't want to screw up. It happens so easily.
No, no, I wouldn't want to intrude on your date. Besides, I'm having my own date that night.
[ Viktor gestures Adachi to follow and he turns to head to one of the men's outlets nearby, handing back his letter. ]
To be honest, semi-formal is pretty fluid in its meanings, but it's basically less formal than a tuxedo but more formal than jeans or khakis. There's a lot between those two extremes though which is why it depends on the setting of the event you're going to. A suit and tie is usually the best bet though.
[ Well he felt dumb now. He probably could have just worn his suit. But, no, he was going to continue with this; a different suit for dates would be a good thing anyway, right? ]
Mm... they said seaside, so I guess something light to wear?
[ Maybe he could even get away with slacks, shirt, and tie if it was an outdoors place. ]
Light in weight, yes; you want to be comfortable if you're going to a restaurant. A nice dress shirt, tie, and jacket would be good for that. Since it's also going to be in the evening, a good rule of thumb is darker colors for events at night and lighter colors for daytime.
[ Viktor directs them into a store that ... looks as if a month's paycheck could maybe buy a sock. Maybe. ]
[ He didn't know there was a whole dating color scheme depending on the time of day. At least he knew how to properly coordinate a suit. Of course if he was going to get one a different color from his usual, that meant he would need a different tie and boots... This was already heading toward expensive territory. ]
[ Speaking of expensive... ]
Ah... Viktor? I'm well off, but I'm not made of money here...
[ Viktor's already looking over a coupe of jackets with an obscene price tag. And yet somehow Viktor, in his sweaty clothes and gym duffel, doesn't look out of place at all in this shop. ]
[ G-geeze, that was one too many zeros. There was already enough zeros attached to what he was paying for the rink per month, don't find something worse, Viktor! ]
[ Adachi hunched his shoulders, feeling like the one that was completely out of place, and he was already in a custom tailored suit. ]
[ Adachi relaxed slightly, although there was a tiny voice muttering, "Rich bastard," in the back of his mind. This was the first time he had been able to afford to live comfortably, and even then things like that were out of his reach. ]
[ Adachi tried -- and failed -- not to roll his eyes at the scowl they received. Look, at least Viktor had a chance of coming back in the future, and he was pretty sure he would look good in just about anything he put on, so they could take their scowl and shove it somewhere else. ]
[ He let out a breath as they left the store, peering around, before pointing out one that had sales signs hanging from the windows. ]

[ ... Not encouraging, Viktor. ]

I was considering asking you to hide nearby and give me advice during it, but now I'm worried that would make things worse.
[ He's only half kidding... about both sides of that. He let out a sigh, shoving his hands into his pockets. ]
So what does semi-formal even translate to?

Eh? What do you mean?

[ Adachi hunched his shoulders, feeling like the one that was completely out of place, and he was already in a custom tailored suit. ]
I can't afford that. At all.
no subject
[ He glances down that the tag then chuckles lightly. ]
Sorry! I'm just used to going into places like this back home. I actually can't afford it here either, not until we get some bigger sponsors.
no subject
Let's try somewhere else.

[ He steers them back out, waving brightly at the scowling worker watching them leave. ]

[ He let out a breath as they left the store, peering around, before pointing out one that had sales signs hanging from the windows. ]
That might be in my budget.
