[ He didn't know there was a whole dating color scheme depending on the time of day. At least he knew how to properly coordinate a suit. Of course if he was going to get one a different color from his usual, that meant he would need a different tie and boots... This was already heading toward expensive territory. ]
[ Speaking of expensive... ]
Ah... Viktor? I'm well off, but I'm not made of money here...
[ Viktor's already looking over a coupe of jackets with an obscene price tag. And yet somehow Viktor, in his sweaty clothes and gym duffel, doesn't look out of place at all in this shop. ]
[ G-geeze, that was one too many zeros. There was already enough zeros attached to what he was paying for the rink per month, don't find something worse, Viktor! ]
[ Adachi hunched his shoulders, feeling like the one that was completely out of place, and he was already in a custom tailored suit. ]
[ Adachi relaxed slightly, although there was a tiny voice muttering, "Rich bastard," in the back of his mind. This was the first time he had been able to afford to live comfortably, and even then things like that were out of his reach. ]
[ Adachi tried -- and failed -- not to roll his eyes at the scowl they received. Look, at least Viktor had a chance of coming back in the future, and he was pretty sure he would look good in just about anything he put on, so they could take their scowl and shove it somewhere else. ]
[ He let out a breath as they left the store, peering around, before pointing out one that had sales signs hanging from the windows. ]
[ As they head over though, Adachi might notice Viktor's eyes trailing more towards women's clothing. Or maybe he could see suits behind the mannequins in the window? Who knows ... ]
[ ...oh, probably for skating costumes or something. Adachi shrugged slightly, before rubbing at the back of his neck. ]
Well... something different from work? Though...
[ His eyes lingered on a black suit as they got closer to the store. Viktor could probably tell by now that red and black was kind of his thing, between his Persona, the phone case, and the fact that his work suit was a blue dark enough it may as well have been black with his red tie. ]
[ Adachi passed a small smile up at him, before turning his focus to looking through the rack the suit was on. Yikes, holy generic sizing; hopefully they had something small enough for him. ]
The police department will pay for housing for its members in Japan, but when I was transferred from the city to Inaba? The moving cost had to come out of my pocket. That... wasn't cheap. By the time I was able to sell off everything, I was lucky to still have my suit to my name. Dojima-san gave me one of his old ties once he was done yelling at me for looking unprofessional.
[ Ugh, none of the black suits were in his size. Curse his skinniness; he moved further into the store, trying to find something like it that would hopefully be in his size. ]
I wanted to be a big city detective. I was well on my way... but I made a mistake, and I wasn't talented enough. I got punted to the country and forgotten about.
A bit of one, yeah! [ Viktor responds, cheerfully blunt. ]
But here, [ he holds the suit in front of Adachi while he turns him to face one of the mirrors nearby. ] You pair this with a black shirt for a more modern looks to it, and it'll set off the color in your tie too!

Eh? What do you mean?

I can't afford that. At all.
no subject
[ He glances down that the tag then chuckles lightly. ]
Sorry! I'm just used to going into places like this back home. I actually can't afford it here either, not until we get some bigger sponsors.

Let's try somewhere else.

[ He steers them back out, waving brightly at the scowling worker watching them leave. ]

That might be in my budget.

...it's a little silly, but I'd like to wear this with whatever I end up with.
no subject
It's not silly at all if it means something to you.

You hadn't told me he yelled at you for it.
no subject
Dojima-san would yell at me a lot. Didn't help that I wasn't exactly the most receptive of partners. Also didn't help I was late on my first day.
no subject
Sounds a bit like my coach Yakov actually. But did you improve each time?
no subject
[ Adachi looked away at that, a disgusted look on his face, but it was directed at himself rather than Viktor. ]
...I didn't, really. I was too stuck on the fact that I thought my life was over to realize what was happening around me.
no subject
You thought your life was over?

That doesn't sound like your life was over though, and really, not even over. Coldn't you have tried again in another big city?
no subject
Ah, no, it doesn't work that way in Japan. The NPA controls where police and detectives are assigned. You can put in requests, but...
[ But he had given up. He made a face at himself, shaking his head. ]
I didn't think I was needed, or wanted anywhere else. I was an idiot.

[ That... sounded like it would look hot, even on him. He grinned sheepishly at his reflection in the mirror, reaching to take it. ]
I think I need to find a black shirt then.
